I have a number of Francis Hoyland's in my tree including one in the Huskar Pit disaster however I am limited to internet searching. I am trying to establish whether Francis Hoyland who married Rebecca Hattersley (Hoyland) in 1790 was the same Francis who married Lydia Hawden in 1805 - if anyone knows please let me know....I know it is a long shot but thanks anyway.

Wondered if anyone had any information on these two places. I am trying to help a Lady with her family history and she is also trying to get information on these two places where her family lived.

Her Grandfathers cousin lived at Wombwell Hall, his name was Jasper Wood and we know he was there in 1914 but could have been there before that.

Her Grandfather, Arthur E Wood moved to Beech house farm Hemingfield in 1914.

Would be grateful for any information.

Hi

I am new to this forum

Several of my Cheshire ancestors and their close relatives moved to Dodworth, presumably to work in the Colliery

They lived in North Royd, Dodworth. Can anyone tell me where that was?

Also I am looking to identify the deaths of some - the names are common and it is hard to identify from the death registration.

Can you tell me are there any burial records or Monumental Inscriptions available?

Thanks in advance

Barnes Family

Hi

Im currently trying to trace some of my Barnes Ancestors. Although they were born all over the place most of them seem to settle and die in Barnsley.

In 1871 they show up on the Scottish Census for Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, then in 1881 they show up in Wombwell, Barnsley. If there are any Barnes decendants out there i would love to hear from you, or if anyone can give any info on the Barnes family i would again love to hear from you.

Thankyou

ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW BFHS FORUM SITE!

The new Barnsley Family History website is now back online, and the Committee hope that you will find the site interesting in content and more easy to navigate than previously. Of course, a great deal remains to be done, and new sections will be added as, and when, they are available.

We have also found it necessary to remove the old Forum from the site. This had served the Society's members faithfully for a number of years, but of late, had become riddled with pornography and other such ...

It is over a month since the Forum site was set up. It is not my site, but it belongs to the members. As I constantly tell new members when activating their registration, 'the Forum is BY the members FOR the members'.

Up to the present time, no one has bothered to open a topic for discussion! I have spent a great deal of time setting up the Forum, and also on the update of our website generally.

So, will you let me know if you think the Forum IS worthwhile, or should it be withdrawn? ...

Hi all,

Am looking for any and all descended from a John LINDLEYwho married a Martha?. They had: John (b 1721), Elizabeth (1723), William (1726), Mary (1728) and Martha (1730). I believe they lived at Jowett House, Cawthorne (just across the road from Cannon Hall (which was owned by a series of Spencers and Stanhopes). It is a wonderful place to visit in spring/summer for a preserved Georgian kitchen and market garden. Jowett House now has a maize maize in summer.

John married an Ann ...

Hello everyone

I am new to this forum and I have a question about the Yorkshire 1891 Census as published by British Data Archives Ltd, which was sent to me recently. I am sure it will be a valuable source of information and expect quite a lot from it.

My ancestors came from Penistone (Thurlston exactly) on my grand-father side, and Felkirk on my grand-mother's. I am completely at loss as to how I find those two parishes among the CD .

I would be most grateful if someonce was kind ...

Members may be interested to know that this coming Saturday, September 13, Roy Stockdill will be speaking to the Family History Section of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society.

The subject is: "The Life & Crimes of Mary Bateman, the Yorkshire Witch."

The talk concerns one of Leeds' most infamous characters, Mary Bateman, a bogus medium and confidence trickster who was hanged at York in 1809 for murder. Roy has been researching this fascinating story for a number of years ...

Getting in touch with Committee members COMPLETED

I wondered if anyone could advise me. I have over the last 3 days tried to get in touch with a Barnsley FHS Committee member by email and have not had a reply. I even tried last night to do it by getting in touch with General Secretary but still no joy. I need to get in touch with the member urgently as I want to order some of their publications but cannot understand the P&P rates.

Can anyone advise how to get in touch with the committee member for Postal & GENfair Booksales urgently.

Hi Carolanne
Sorry you had trouble accessing the site! What exactly has been the problem?

If you can let me know, maybe I can do something about it to avoid other users having the same problem.

To be perfectly honest, I only used the old forum twice, as there was so much rubbish there that I didn't think it was worth it!

Let's hope this site will be useful to all the subscribers.
Best Wishes

For those who didn't see my posting on the old forum - I would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about the FAIRBOTTOM family who lived in Barnsley from 1870 to early 1900s. George FAIRBOTTOM/FAIRBOTHAM came from Hull and was a fishmonger in Barnsley. He married Ann THEWLISS (b Barnsley Hoyland Nether 1849) in 1869, had 8 children and was living in Joseph Street in 1888.
