Barnsley in the 1930s Empty Barnsley in the 1930s

I am trying to trace the 1930s address in Barnsley of my now long deceased parents. They were Horace and Nellie LAWTON, and they bought a small (?semi-detached) house there when I was a little boy. It was I believe a newly built house (costing about 400 GBP) on a speculative development, and I think we lived there from about 1935 to 1938. We had certainly left by Septmber 1938 when I started school in New Brighton! I have a very faint memory of the house being in a hilly area with steps from the front garden to the front door, with the house backing on to open fields.

To enable me to narrow my search in the electoral rolls of the time, can anyone familiar with 'old' Barnsley please suggest in what area(s) new private housing developments may have taken place there in the mid-1930s?

Any information, however vague, will be of help.

Thank you.
