Barnsley in the 1930s

Tue Aug 09, 2011 7:05 pm by Guy Lawton

I am trying to trace the 1930s address in Barnsley of my now long deceased parents. They were Horace and Nellie LAWTON, and they bought a small (?semi-detached) house there when I was a little boy. It was I believe a newly built house (costing about 400 GBP) on a speculative development, and I think we lived there from about 1935 to 1938. We had certainly left by Septmber 1938 when I started …

Reply to Edwin Bowden regarding William Cooper

Fri Jun 24, 2011 1:32 pm by bfhs2011

Dear Mr Bowden, I am the sister of Richie Cooper who placed the original post. I started to research the family within the last couple of weeks. I believe that Lavinia Bowden may be the sister of Willie Cooper, our grandfather (not William). I have a copy of the 1911 census; Willie was the son of Sidney and Maria Cooper, they lived at 115 Cherry Tree Street, Elsecar. The record shows that …

Thu Jul 30, 2009 9:21 am by stonechat

Hi
I am new to this forum

Several of my Cheshire ancestors and their close relatives moved to Dodworth, presumably to work in the Colliery

They lived in North Royd, Dodworth. Can anyone tell me where that was?

Also I am looking to identify the deaths of some - the names are common and it is hard to identify from the death registration.

Can you tell me are there any burial records or …

Rawling House, Cawthorne

Sun Sep 19, 2010 9:14 pm by Sue

I have been trying to find out the history of Rawling House without success. The period I am interested in is between about 1761 to about 1800. During that period some of my ancestors (name of Wilcock) were either born and/or died there.
I would greatly appreciate any information.

Photographs of Barnsley - (or wherever)

Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:58 am by lizzybee

Just thought you might like to try a website Friths - Photographs. There you can view for free photos of the area you are interested in. I have just looked and I think there are 9 photos for Barnsley. The oldest is only going back to 1948 unfortunately but nevermind it was a good year!

Good Luck!
