MARSHALL FAMILY, BARNSLEY Empty MARSHALL FAMILY, BARNSLEY

Post  Carol Sat Jul 11, 2009 4:30 am

Hi all,

I am descended from Thomas Marshall b. November 1808 in Barnsley, baptised at St. Mary's, son of Thomas and Sarah Marshall; Thomas married at least twice; to Sarah Smith on 2 March 1829 at Silkstone. They had six chilredn - Mary b. 1835, Thomas b.1836, John b. 1837, George b. 1839, William b. 1841, and Emma b. 1846. Sarah died before 1851, and Thomas then married Elizabeth (Bessy) Claypon (ne Steel) who was a widow with three children from her first marriage, Rebecca, Margaret and George Claypon.

Thomas and Sarah's eldest daughter Mary, who worked in the house of Mr. Joseph Mclintock as a general servant in 1851, gave birth to an illegitimate son, William Henry Marshall, in 1857 (my great-grandfather). Does anyone on the list know anything about this family? In particular, who the father of William Henry was. I have been unable to trace Mary and William Henry in the 1861 census.

Many thanks,

Carol
